My life would have taken a much different course had I not been in Mrs. Jenkins' 6th grade English class. I was only there for a few weeks and she recommended I be moved to a gifted and talented program the school was starting. I was surprised, as I had never done well in school. But Mrs. Jenkins told me that I wasn't a bad kid, she thought I was just bored. I had never had anyone believe in me like that. I had certainly never had a teacher tell me she loved me.
I visited with her a few years after I graduated just to tell her what her kindness had done for me.
I'm certain I wasn't the only kid whose life she impacted in such a wonderful way, but I am so grateful that God placed her in my path.
Rest in Christ, Mrs. Jenkins. I cannot even imagine what reward awaited you.
