One of a Kind.
I first met Mrs. Butler when I was in elementary school. I did not address her as Flora until I was forty years old. First of all, she was the only grown woman I knew back then that walked around her house and yard barefoot. She was a little different from my friends moms.A pretty little petite thing with shiny dark eyes that somehow showed a bit of mischief. She had a swishy, flirty, sassy, and feisty way about her that always delighted me.Her singsong way of speaking was usually sweet and rather soothing, but could suddenly become chatty and scolding like a house wren when you are too close to its nest!I can still picture her in what I came to think of as her uniform; a brilliant white short sleeved button front shirt tucked into a blue plaid pleated skirt.Neat as a pin. Her hair pulled back in a classic ponytail. For sure she was one of a kind and we will all miss her.
