memories
I was saddened to her of the death of John McDuff. Today something I saw on facebook made me think of him. I think it was a song someone shared. That song I was watching and listening to on You Tube made me think of him for some reason. I typed in his name and the song Unworthy came up so I watched the video and read the comments and discovered he had passed away. I am sorry for your loss but wanted to share a couple things that I remember about John McDuff and his family as well. I know that you don't know me but growing up I was raised along with my 6 other siblings by a single mom. My dad's mother was very close to us and we couldn't afford family vacations but with my mom and my grandma we were privileged to be able to go to the Assembly of God Family camps a couple different summers. I remember one At Fahola park in Michigan and another somewhere in Indiana I believe. I was the oldest of my siblings and loved attending church and especially loved the camp meetings. I think i was probably a mid teen one time that we attended. I remember my younger sisters playing with and becoming camp friends with Starla. I also remember one day for some reason all the young people gathered in a place separate from the main sanctuary maybe it was the dining hall or someplace like that. We were praying and we stayed there for hours and hours. One of John's sons was there as well. I remember we were standing and praying and had our arms raised praising the Lord for so long that is honestly was difficult to put our arms down when we were finished. I have many fond memories from that camp meeting and can remember breaking down during one service and my mom just hugging me as I sobbed. I don't remember more details but i know it was regarding something spoken in John's sermon.
Another memory I have is when I was a bit older and married. My grandma and I heard John was speaking at Fa-ho-la park and since we weren't camping we decided to drive there for the evening service. I have shared something I heard in John's message that evening so many times since. It will always stay with me. He spoke about prayer and the power of prayer. I remember an illustration he gave or a dream or vision he had and he shared it with us. He spoke of actually seeing prayers going up to heaven and God sending His busy angels down to meet the requests and comfort people and take care of the needs and prayer requests. John explained that if we could only see what goes on in the spiritual world we would realize that prayer is so powerful and should always be what we do first and not take lightly. This is something that is always so important and special to me to this day. I appreciate my years growing up and having the opportunity to be able to have the experiences I did at camp and listening to God's word spoken by john. I will never forget it. I pray that all of John's family are doing well and appreciate you taking the time to read my message to you. Thank you Pam Kaman Grand Rapids, MI Grand Rapids First Assembly of God Church.
