Obituary for
Arlene Carol Holmes
Arlene Carol Holmes was born in Sellersville, Pennsylvania on August 30, 1954 to Paul Milus Moser and Evelyn Moser. She passed from this life on March 19, 2023, in Humble, Texas.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Lois Bolyard. She is survived by her husband of almost 47 years, Kenneth Holmes; her sisters Evelyn Press and Susan Barger; and her brothers Paul Moser, Robert Moser, and John Moser.
Arlene was a compassionate, socially involved person. She was a Registered Nurse, and served in the US Army for three years, earning the rank of First Lieutenant. She met the love of her life, Kenneth Holmes, while serving in the Army. They were married on April 10, 1976. After moving to the Houston area in 1980, she worked as a nurse at the Northeast Medical Center in Humble for the next twenty years. Though plagued with a heart condition for decades and a fight with cancer in the 1990’s, she continued to work to bring healing to others. She volunteered as an advisor for an Explorer Troop for youth aspiring to enter the medical professions. She and Ken purchased their home in New Caney in 1988 and shortly thereafter she began attending Bethel Baptist Church.
In 2000, she was severely injured by a head on collision brought about by a drunk driver who was driving on the wrong side of a divided highway. In spite of this, Arlene never wavered in her compassion and involvement for and with other people, sharing and learning and teaching.
Following surgery in 2020 to remove a returning cancer, Arlene never fully recovered, although she continued to be an avid reader and enjoyed playing card games against her computer. Sudoku puzzles were a particular favorite.
Though her body and mind became increasingly frail and tired, she continued directing and teaching her medical caregivers in her final hospital stay. She enjoyed smiling and laughing, and she wanted to sleep peacefully…and so she did on the night of March 18-19, 2023.
