Lydia Cabasos Guerra (Cabasos)
Lydia Cabasos Guerra, 81, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and aunt, passed away on July 23, 2022 after battling cancer.
Lydia was born on November 6, 1940, in Edna, Jackson County, Texas. She was the daughter of Julio Garza Cabasos and Angelita Cabrera Figueroa, a descendant of the original Spanish settlers of Texas. At age 10, Lydia moved with her father to Houston, Texas, after losing her mother at age 2. She attended Jefferson Davis High School and lived on Houston’s Northside. In 1976, Lydia made Humble her home.
As a homemaker, she was creative in the kitchen and attentive to the family’s every needs.
Her interests included reading biographies, enjoying travel books, and solving crossword puzzles.
A faithful and loving spouse, she was married to her husband, Mike, for 62 years. A kind mother and grandmother, she believed that her grandkids could “do no wrong.” Her willingness to listen, endless patience, and ability to find goodness in others will be remembered by all who knew her.
Lydia is survived by her husband, Mike; children, Deirdra Donart of St. Louis, Mo., Dennis Guerra of Humble, Melissa Jurick (Paul) of Cypress, Laura Guerra (Carsten Thomas) of Germany, and Celena Pawlak (Jeremy) of Houston. She leaves behind grandchildren Sarah and Jill Donart; Taryn Collins, Dennis Michael and Jesse Guerra; Angelina and Louis Thomas; Carina, Mira, Julia, Sophia, Vincent and Anthony Pawlak; and great-grandchildren Adia Guerra-Collins and Maya Collins of Oregon.
