Obituary for Kathy Marlene Thackston (Eggleston)

Kathy Marlene Thackston (Eggleston)
Kathy Marlene Thackston of Humble (Atascocita), Texas passed away on December 31, 2020 at age 63 from breast cancer, and pulmonary embolism.
Kathy was born Kathy Marlene Eggleston of Columbus, Ohio on February 23, 1957, shortly thereafter moving to Bellefontaine, Ohio and then Sidney, Ohio. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1975 where she enjoyed playing violin in the orchestra and string quartet. She attended Bluffton College and Bowling Green State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Social Work in 1980.
After graduation, Kathy moved to Houston, Texas, and met then married John Brian Thackston on March 19, 1988. In 1991 Kathy and John made their home in Humble (Atascocita) Texas where she lived until her death.
She is proceeded in death by her father and mother Alfred Eugene Eggleston and Doris Virginia (Augspurger) Eggleston.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, John Thackston, sister Karen Gagermeier of Sidney, Ohio, 7 nephews and 4 nieces.
She was a devoted woman of faith and a member of First Methodist Humble church. She was active in the community and church where she volunteered for various activities, including serving the hospitality club, and The Gathering (for Alzheimer day out for care givers). Kathy was an avid reader, one of her passions was animals and she rescued a number of dogs and cats over the years, and volunteered at a local animal shelter. She also loved film noir movies and musicals. Most people will remember Kathy’s unassuming, kind, cheerful nature along with her wit and sense of humor. Many also experienced her pure heart of compassion. She negotiated the burden of life-threatening disease with a smile, joking and teasing caregivers, with faith in God’s will.
Private immediate family service, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to American Cancer Society.
