Loraine Devars (Schilhab)
Loraine Devars, of Huffman, TX, passed away peacefully, in her home, on September 5th, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. Loraine was 92 years old. Born Loraine Ann Schilhab, on February 15th, 1926, in rural Gonzalez County, to Ed Schilhab and Mary Theresa Koller, Loraine lived a simple farm life in her early days. As a young adult, Loraine made her roots in towns like Schulenburg, TX, and Jonesville, Louisiana. She settled in the Houston Heights neighborhood with her husband, Luther Pickett Hamil, where they raised four children: Barbara Jean (Bobbi), Janet (Sweetie), Ernie Dwight (Bud), and Lauri (Blondie). As her children became of age, she moved to Hallettsville, TX, where she opened Hill Top Resale Shop. It is also where she found two lifetime friends: Geraldine Taylor and Alfred Hessler. Loraine is survived by her three children: Bobbi Svetlik, Janet Ellis, and Lauri Thomas, her five grand-children: Nathan Svetlik, Josh Mosley, Jonathan Mosley, Mendy Martinez, and Christy Rutigliano, and her 14 Great-Grandchildren. She now resides in Heaven, with her late husband, Deane Devars, her son, Ernie Dwight Hamil, her Grandson Ernie, as well as her parents, brothers and sister. Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
