Carolyn Ruth “Granny” Van Meter

July 30, 1934 – June 24, 2018

Carolyn Ruth “Granny” Van Meter, 83, born in Franklin, Tennessee, joined the love of her life David “PeePaw” on June 24, 2018. She is survived by her children, Mary Coutu and husband Carl, Rhonda Weaver and husband Ken, Mike Jaks and wife Peggy; by her grandchildren, Kathryn Madison and husband Kevin, Bryan Weaver and wife Kari, Corey Jaks and wife Cameron, Logan Jaks, Haleigh Maudsley, Stephanie Maudsley, Jessica Weaver, John Paul Sisson, Anna and Emma McCarter, Chloe Ann Doucette; by her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Jaks, Chloe Weaver and Jackson Weaver; by her sister Bettye Chambless.

Granny is preceded in death by her parents John Frank Simpson and Stella Marie Marks Simpson, Joe Wallace Simpson, Connie Simpson McCord and by her granddaughter Kendra Mykel Jaks.

She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School on June 2, 1953. Granny enjoyed playing games with family and friends, taking trips to the casino, bird watching and traveling to Hot Springs, Arkansas for the month of October for many years. One of her most favorite things to do was to play Bunco with her girls once a month. Her and PeePaw spent 50 years fostering over 500 children in their home and it’s hard to talk about Granny without talking about the children that blessed her over the years. Her grandkids remember her as loving, firm, witty and very opinionated. They all loved her so very much and take joy in all of the special memories they shared with her.

The family will receive friends at 5pm on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Rosewood Funeral Home Chapel, 3939 Pasadena Blvd., Pasadena, Texas 77503. The service will take place at 10am, Saturday, June 30, 2018. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston, TX.
