Obituary for Guy Lafayette Jeanes, Jr.

Guy Lafayette Jeanes, Jr.
Guy Lafayette Jeanes, Jr. was born on August 8, 1923 in Teague, Texas and passed away on June 2, 2018.
Guy L. Jeanes, Jr. spent most of his youth observing his dad’s sawmill/lumber business in northeast Houston, Texas while graduating from Jeff Davis High School and attending the University of Houston. He started a Brahman cattle ranching operation of more than 74 years in 1940, following a trip to the J.D. Hudgins Ranch in Hungerford, Texas. One Brahman herd bull and several Brahman heifers were purchased from Walter Hudgins during that visit, and this acquisition was the beginning of a registered Brahman cattle business that resulted in the shipment of sale cattle to many ranches throughout the United States as well as foreign destinations, including Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Thailand.
Guy L. Jeanes, Jr., a true cattleman, dedicated his life to the cattle ranching industry, specializing in gentle, beef-type, registered Brahman cattle. Guy was a long-time member of the Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. He served on the board of directors of the American Brahman Breeders Association, Texas Brahman Breeders Association, East Texas Brahman Breeders Association and the Houston area Brahman Breeders Association. The American Braham Breeders Association dedicated the 2006 International Brahman Show at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo to Guy L. Jeanes, Jr. in recognition of his long-time contribution to the registered Brahman cattle breed and the Texas cattle industry. Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst further recognized the 2006 International Brahman Show dedication by presenting Guy with the Texas flag that was flown over the State Capitol on Texas Independence Day, March 2, 2006. Noted for straight talk, brutal honesty, and rare commitment, the Texas Brahman cattle business will miss one of the industry’s pioneer members.
Guy L. Jeanes, Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Guy L. Jeanes, Sr., his mother, Mary Belle Love Jeanes, his loving wife of 51 years, Hazel Ann Furr Jeanes, his son, Robert Eugene Jeanes, and his son Guy L. Jeanes, III. He is survived by his son, Franklin Wyatt Jeanes, six grandchildren, Julie Kaye Jeanes Lattin, Robert Russell Jeanes, Guy Ebbert Jeanes, Don Paul Jeanes, Donald Wyatt Jeanes, and Brian Franklin Jeanes, and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Guy L. Jeanes, Jr.’s life will begin with visitation at Rosewood Funeral Home, 2602 South Houston Avenue, Humble, Texas 77396 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018. The funeral service will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home, 2602 South Houston Avenue, Humble, Texas 77396 at 12 Noon on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. The graveside service will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023.
In lieu of flowers, the Jeanes family would appreciate contributions to Second Baptist Church, Dayton FFA, or the charity of donor choice.
