Obituary for Martha Louise Kovacs (Stuart)

Martha Louise Kovacs (Stuart)
Martha Kovacs passed away on the morning of February 8, 2024, ending her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Martha was born in Houston, TX, to Leona Maxine (McFadden) Stuart and Dock Arteak Stuart on April 29, 1948, and raised in Pampa, TX. In 1973, she moved to Porter, TX, with her husband Bill and raised three children.

She was a 1966 Graduate of Pampa High School, where she was involved with her school choir. In 1970, she graduated from Texas Women’s University in Denton and Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and a minor degree in Psychology.

Martha was very involved in her church and was always involved in the church choir/praise and worship team. She would sing in other church’s choirs and was a part of the Conroe Chorale for a year or two in the 1980’s. She loved singing hymns, contemporary Christian music, and enjoyed musical movies and plays. Music was an everyday part of her life. It brought her joy. She was passionate about singing and loved music, especially Christian music.

Martha was also passionate about her nursing profession. So much so, that she started her career as a volunteer nurse (candy striper) and later a Registered Nurse focusing on newborn babies. She worked in the NICU, Mother/Baby, and Neo-Natal units. In 1982, she took her career in a different direction by taking a school nurse position: 13 years at Woodland Hills Elementary School—5 years at Kingwood High School--2 years with New Caney High School. When she retired from being a school nurse, Martha went back to work caring for babies at Northeast Medical Center in Humble, where she worked PRN from 1997 to 12/24/2014, when she retired for good. Even in her diminished mental state at the end of her life, she gravitated to the babies of her caregivers at her assisted living facility.

Martha is preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years and best friend, Bill Kovacs; parents, Dock and Leona Stuart; sisters, Maurine Warr and Marsha Stuart.

Martha is survived by her son, Brian Scott Kovacs (Mechelle); daughter, Erin Hancock (Richard); and son, Steven Kovacs (Natalie). Eleven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Sister, Mary Stuart and brothers,
Daniel Stuart, and Donald Stuart.

A memorial service and reception will be held at: The Faith Family Baptist Church, 23915 US-59, Kingwood, TX 77339, at Noon on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

Her ashes will be buried at the Houston National Cemetery at Bill’s burial site (N4). There will be no gravesite service.

Thank you, Meg, and the staff at Avalon Memory Care in Atascocita, for watching over and taking care of our mother at the end of her life.
