Obituary for
Herman L. Greer
, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, November 19, 2017, just in time to go home for Thanksgiving.
Born and raised in Pattison, MS, Herman moved to Morgan City, LA, after high school graduation, working in the oil industry. He later moved to Lafayette, LA, founding Holiday Pipe in 1975, and transferred to Pasadena, TX, in 1977.
Herman has a large family waiting for him in heaven: son Darrell, parents Ruby and Delmar, brother Cleve (and wife, Sue) and brother Bill Greer; his in-laws, Patsy and Joseph Turner and Michael Alexander; plus brothers-in-law Edward McKinney and Rayford Varnado.
Toni, his companion, entertainment director and wife for 41 years, survives him, along with his beloved furry friend, Buddy. Their blended family numbers more than 50 direct descendants: son Randy and wife Patrice Greer, children Kirby, Joshua, Sharee (Matt) and grandchildren Kaden and Morgan; daughter Trudy and husband James Durham, children Kristin (Erik), Lindsey (Brian), Jamie (Ben), and grandchildren Kasey, Presley, Brady, Liam and baby Carter; son Todd and wife DeAnna Greer, children Devyn (Colin), Ty (Cara), Blake (Brandy), Devin (J.C.), Brandi (Ethan) and grandchildren Coy and Parker; daughter Tracy and husband Jason Jones, children Brandon, Lauren, Benjamin and London; son Teron and wife Michelle Greer, children Destiny, Jacob, Haley and Cathan.
Other relatives are Herman’s sisters, Martha McKinney and Bertha Varnado; youngest brother Leslie and wife Margaret Greer; sister-in-law Jay and wife Kristi Linscombe; brother-in-law James Turner; mother-in-law Ginny and husband John Acton; Jean Woods and family.
Friends and extended family include Gay Smith (mother of Randy, Trudy and Darrell), who was at his bedside; Tracy Greer (mother of grandchildren Devyn, Ty and Blake); Keith Sharpe (father of grandchildren Brandon and Lauren); long-time friend (also known as “Wife #2”) Donna Thomas and her family; fishing partner Dr. Victor Kimble, and Angela Harkleload (mother of Jacob).
A Mason for more than 50 years, Herman loved fishing, hunting, playing cards and family traditions. He spent 20 years celebrating New Year’s (and many vacations) with his special nephew and best friend Eddie McKinney. He believed that his large family was his biggest and best accomplishment.
Viewing will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home, 3939 Pasadena Blvd, Pasadena, TX, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
