Gailor never played football until his senior year because he had to work after school. That did not stop him from making the starting lineup (guard) and playing both ways on a talented team that did not have very many players. He made the All-City team as the Blue Jays had a 6-2-1 record.
When basketball season started he was the keeper of the scorebook (which is in the archives of the Alumni Room at the school) . After keeping the required records all year he could not resist the temptation to write "State Champs" in large letters on the pages for the final game when West won its fourth State Championship in 1954.Typical Gailor.
He was one of the most enthusiastic people I ever met, as well as intelligent. He had a doctorate, but he never flaunted it. My last contact with him was a few months ago when he made a generous donation to a memorial fund for a classmate. Again, typical Gailor.
