Obituary for Dennis Melvin Commons

Dennis M. Commons was born May 18, 1961, to Allan and Lucy Commons, of Chattanooga, TN. He grew up on Lookout Mountain and received an Engineering scholarship to Kentucky College Of Technology. An Army Reservist, Dennis served fulltime during Desert Storm. His God given genius with math and engineering brought him around the world working for major corporations like GE, Toshiba, and Baker Hughes,
but his heart remained with Electronic Power Design, a family-owned company in Houston, TX.

In 1990 Dennis married Zita Molden of New Orleans, LA and settled down in NOLA to raise their 2 daughters, Chevaughn and Kiersten, before relocating to several US States and abroad. Of all their adventures he especially loved water activities with his favorite being jet skiing and taking Kiersten to swim with dolphins. Dennis adored Avery, his grandson born to Chevaughn in 2018, and devoted his weekends to Chevaughn for Avery’s soccer games, Chuck E Cheese nights, and movie nights. He was already making big plans for Carl Jr. to join the fun with him and Avery.

When not tinkering with remote planes and helicopters, he loved fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was an Honorary member of Free Riders Houston and of all their events, Dennis’ absolute favorite was purchasing and delivering blankets, socks, and personal items for the homeless.

Dennis gained his wings on Friday, May 5, 2023. Meeting him for his walk to the Heavenly Gates were his parents, Allan and Lucy Commons, who preceded him in death.

Keeping Dennis’ memory alive are his wife, Zita Commons; his daughters, Chevaughn Molden and Kiersten (Carl) Bostic; his grandsons Avery Molden and Carl Bostic Jr. (arriving August 3, 2023); his siblings, Allan (Lori) Commons Jr., Linda Commons, and Donna Ammons; his nieces and nephews Byron (Tiffany) Commons, Allan (Ketre) Commons, Brittany (Kenny) Worthen, Christin McWhorter, David (Linda) Crutcher, Monica (Michelle) Crutcher, Marcus Crutcher, and Clarence Ammons; his cousin-sister Doris Jaye Shropshire; and his cousin-brother John H. Shropshire, Jr.
