Obituary for Thomas Taylor Garry

Thomas Taylor Garry (Papa) passed peacefully August 25, 2022 in The Woodlands, TX having just celebrated his 86th birthday the week before.

Tom is survived by his wife of 61 years, Delores Ferguson Garry; his children, Carla Craig and Tom Garry, Jr.; his grandchildren, Katie Craig Sinclair, Laura Craig, Shelby Garry, Taylor Garry; his great grandchild Bonnie Sinclair; his brother, William Garry; and his sister, Roberta Garry Trunzo.

Tom was Valedictorian of his class at Gardiner High School in Montana. His father worked for the Park Service, and his family lived in many areas of the US, including in some of our National Parks. He graduated from University of Montana State with a degree in Electrical Engineering and served in the Air Force and the Air National Guard as a flight navigator, reaching the rank of Captain. He loved to fly in B-29 radar interceptors and F-89 Scorpion fighter jets. He achieved his license as a Professional Engineer in 1980 and worked in that role with extraordinary dedication and commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards. He was widely regarded as an expert in several areas of automation and controls even after his retirement.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, and all-around fixer of anything broken. His friends, family and neighbors loved and admired his willingness to always help without hesitation. He enjoyed ping pong, wine making, beer brewing and puzzles and was happy to help with several churches he attended through his years, and was a current member of Kingwood United Methodist Church. He will be deeply appreciated and missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, September 9, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Rosewood Funeral Home in Porter, TX. His family will be sharing some favorite memories. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in his name to the Dementia Society of America. MD Anderson Cancer Center, or the charity of your choice.
