Obituary for
Derek Alonzo Haynes
Derek Alonzo Haynes entered into the loving arms of our Lord on August 11, 2022 at the age of 57. He was born in Houston, TX on 12/16/64 to Joyce and Curtis Haynes.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by the love of his life Janelle Miller, father Curtis (Denice), brothers Lenard (Ma. Theresa), Bryan (Tiffany) and sister Karrissa Ricks, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Joyce Haynes, grandparents Stella and Ezekiel Hadnot, and Donnie Mae Haynes.
Derek was a graduate of Jessie H. Jones High School. In 2007 he received an Associates of Applied Science in the field of Medical Radiography at San Jacinto College and was a recipient of a scholarship from the San Jacinto College Foundation. He received an award for Outstanding Employee for 4 years at Gulf Coast MRI and Diagnostics. He had a successful and rewarding career with One Step Diagnostic for over six and one half years.
Derek had many interests. He was a competitive body builder from 1994-2000 at the National Level, won overall and placed 1st twice. Other interests were computer graphic design, music artist and in-depth science research.
Derek chose to study scripture, follow Christ and share the word with others. He was passionate about exercising his body as well as his mind and encouraged everyone he met to do the same. Though he displayed a tough and quiet exterior, his loving heart always found a way to peek through.
In 2002, he met Janelle. Their relationship of 20 years deepened with time, which was evident through the life they lived, loved and shared. Derek and Janelle were soul mates who found compatibility and a deep friendship. They grew physically stronger in the gym, as well as spiritually in a way many of us can only hope to experience.
Janelle intends to remember their love, and continue spreading the word of Christ, teaching others how to live a healthy lifestyle, and giving lots of extra love to their fur baby, Fatty.
Derek Alonzo Haynes left his mark on the community and touched so many lives in a positive and uplifting way. He loved others completely, without judgment. “Beloved, let us love one another. For love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” -John 4:7
