Obituary for
Joe Wade Messec
On Saturday, August 13, 2022, Joe Wade Messec, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 80. Joe was born on August 3, 1942, in Houston, Texas to Luby Howard and Bonnie Ray (Wade) Messec. He was a medic in the Vietnam War, but he never wanted any acknowledgement for serving his country as he felt his sacrifice was enough. He worked in the logistics industry for over 25 years where he was held in high esteem and had a lasting impact in the field. On February 22, 1964 he married Priscilla Ann Wilburn. They raised two children, “little” Joe and Jodi.
Joe loved his wife and family with all of his heart. Everything he did, he did it for them, to see them happy and healthy. He enjoyed travelling, collecting and restoring antiques, canning jams and preserves, and spending time with his family. He liked to share his passions with those around him, including frequently gifting others with jars of obscure, yet tasty, preserved fruits. His willingness to help anyone in need meant others could always count on Joe in any situation. It didn’t matter if you were family, a friend, or an employee: he was always there to offer comfort and support. He was known for his quick wit, contagious laugh, and his propensity to always have a story to tell.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Luby and Bonnie, his sister Sonia Surginer, and his son, Joe Wade Messec II. He is survived by his wife Priscilla, his daughter Jodi Whitehead and son-in-law Larry Whitehead, and his three grandchildren, Myka Cruz, Wade Whitehead, and Kathryn Whitehead.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the Rosewood Funeral Home at 10 o’clock a.m. Flowers may be sent to 2602 South Houston Ave. Humble, TX 77396.
