Obituary for Mitchell Roy Serpas

Mitchell Roy Serpas, 36, died on August 6, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family after a hard-fought four-year battle with cancer. He was born in Baton Rouge, LA on February 13, 1986. He is survived by his wife Chavanne Mae Serpas, children Benjamin and Willow Serpas, parents Elizabeth and Stewart Serpas, sister Victoria Serpas Higbie (Steve), and nephew Charles Higbie. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was a devout Christian and was a student of the Bible.
Mitchell received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Louisiana State University in 2008 and a doctorate degree in chemical engineering in 2012 from Texas A&M University. He worked for Exxon Mobil from 2012 to the present as a process control expert. He had a brilliant mind, excelling in engineering, mathematics, and any other subject he decided to study. He loved to debate with others – on topics with great technical, philosophical, and religious impact to topics of extreme insignificance.
Mitch enjoyed being with his family, camping, fishing, cooking, and grilling. Over the years he served on over ten mission trips to orphanages and drug rehab centers in Mexico, Russia, and Romania. He was always ready to help and mentor others - from all backgrounds - both technically and spiritually.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM on Friday, August 12, 2022, until religious services beginning at 11:30 AM at Grace Church of Humble, 7224 N Sam Houston Pkwy E, Humble, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Benjamin and Willow Serpas’ Educational Funds (go to ugift529.com, use codes 37F-217 and J99-R7C).
