Obituary for John Martin Koehler, Jr.

John Martin Koehler, Jr.
John Martin Koehler, Jr., 78, of Huffman, Texas, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. He was born on November 4, 1943 to John Sr. and Lillie Koehler in Houston, Texas. He was baptized on December 5, 1943 in La Grange, Texas.

John graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He served 6 years in the Texas National Guard as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. John worked in the energy industry, notably at Goodyear for 13 years and ExxonMobil for 29 years.

On November 20, 1971, John married the love of his life, Marjorie Hoffmann, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas. They spent 50 beautiful years together and were blessed by God to have a life filled with so much joy.

During his life he enjoyed spending time outdoors in his workshop, specifically woodworking, gardening, evening walks with Margie and rooting for the Houston Astros. But more importantly, John reveled in spending quality time with his family. Whether they were at church, on the boat, eating a delicious meal, or playing games he was never happier and always had a good dad joke on hand that we lovingly nicknamed “Johnny Jokes”. His greatest pleasure was praising the Lord and counting God’s many blessings. John actively sought to know God, studied the Bible fervently, and loved to share his knowledge and live out his faith. He was a lifelong Lutheran and active member at St. Matthew, Pilgrim, Fishers of Men, and Christ the King. He humbly served through regular worship, leadership, and teaching bible studies. In retirement he was blessed to have traveled with the church group and built friendships through Young at Heart.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marlene Johle, and eldest son Ernie Koehler. He is survived by his wife Margie; son Karl Koehler with Shana and granddaughters Kaylie and Alyssa; son Richard Koehler with Christine; daughter Anne Williams with Neil and children Colin, Ben, and Alora; and granddaughter Emily Likens with Taylor and great-grandchildren Jack and Noah. He is also survived by his sister Karen Chance, countless cousins, nieces, nephews and beloved extended in-law families.

A visitation will be held on July 29, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Rosewood Funeral Home, 17404 West Lake Houston Pkwy, Atascocita, TX 77346. A Celebration of Life service will be held on July 30, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 3803 W. Lake Houston Pkwy, Humble, TX 77339. The family invites
you to stay after the service for a reception that will include refreshments and light foods.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would be honored if you would consider Addi’s Faith Foundation (addisfaithfoundation.org) or Christ the King Lutheran Church (https://christ4u.net) for any memorials in John’s name.

If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Romans 14:8
