Obituary for Donald Paul Harmier Sr.

Donald Paul Harmier, Sr., of Houston, Texas, passed away on May 13, 2022 at the age of 91. A Korean War Army Veteran and successful businessman, Donald is preceded in death by his beloved wife Elma Nell (Cotton) Harmier, brother Kenneth Patrick Harmier, sister Patricia Grace Anderson, and daugher in law Sally Slaughter.
Donald (Don) was born October 15, 1930 to Mary Velma (Cook) Harmier and John Donald Harmier.
Don is survived by his and Cotton’s children (Donald Paul Harmier, Jr., Leigh Ann Kilman, Karen Lou Harmier, and Richard Dale Harmier; plus daughter in law Charlotte Harmier, and son in law Jerry Gates. He is also survived by a large and loved family including 5 grandchildren (Jennifer Harmier Avila, Joseph Harmier, Christopher Skweres, Savannah Kilman, and Austin Kilman); 5 greatgrandchildren; sister in law JoAnn Harmier; brothers in law George J. Anderson, Gene Essary; cousins John Cook, Frank (Sonny) Harmier, Claudia Harmier; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and an extended family.
Don served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and luckily returned to his beloved wife Cotton and family after surviving the brutal conditions of war, winters, and hepatitis.
A lifelong resident of Houston, TX, Don was a machinist working for many years before starting his own company, DH Grinding, which is still in business 40 years later. Don was a devoted family man who cherished his wife Cotton of 42 years, children, and relatives. He will be greatly missed but always loved.
