Reecie Bonetta Pitts departed this world on May 1, 2022, in Pasadena, Texas. Bonetta was born in Buffalo, Texas, on October 7, 1933, to Maude and Reece Pickens. Her family moved to Pasadena, Texas, when she was a child. She lived in Pasadena for the remainder of her life. She met and married Charles Pitts as a teenager, and he would be her life-partner for 64 years. Together, they would raise four children, make a myriad of friends, provide furniture for a small city, and travel the world.

Bonetta had many passions. First, she loved her family. Her husband and children were everything to her. As mothers do, she often sacrificed her own well-being and needs for her family. Second, she loved her church. They joined First Baptist Church of Golden Acres (now Golden Acres Baptist Church) in 1964. For the next 57 years, Bonetta attended the church, taught Sunday School, led Vacation Bible School, went on youth trips across the country, hosted pool parties, volunteered for everything, and gave generously to her church in service of her Lord Jesus. Third, she and Charles travelled to Europe, the Holy Land, China, and Russia, in addition to all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They loved the excitement of new places and new cultures.

Last, but certainly not least, she loved people! Her children’s friends called her, “mom.” Her love created a place of comfort for her children’s friends. One of them recently said, she “always made me feel loved.” Her generosity was famous throughout her relationships. Her hospitality was legendary, allowing strangers to stay in the house overnight at a mere request by her children. Her flexibility and patience made her children the envy of their friends. All of these characteristics lead to one word: legacy. Her legacy will last for generations.

Bonetta is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Brashier and Patricia Kuykendall, her son Chuck Pitts and daughter-in-law Beth Pitts, granddaughter Melody Riddler, grandsons Davis Brashier and wife Jennifer Brashier, Jordan Pitts and wife Kaleena Morgan, and Joseph Kuykendall, as well as five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Pitts, daughter Kathy Dodd and son-in-law Jim Dodd, and grandson J. R. Dodd.

A funeral service to celebrate Bonetta’s life and memory will be held on Saturday, May 14, 12 pm (Noon), at Golden Acres Baptist Church, 2812 Pansy St., Pasadena, TX. Interment will follow service, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston, TX. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 13, 5:00-8:00 pm at Rosewood Funeral Home, 3939 Pasadena Blvd., Pasadena, TX.
