Roy Calvin Bates
May 9, 1948 – May 1, 2022.
Roy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Amy F. Bates, son, Russell W. Bates, daughter-in-law, Jennifer A. Bates, siblings: James Bates, Dorothy Bates, Steve Bates and Bill Bates, and grandson, Ryan E. Bates.
Roy is preceded in death by his son, Ryan M. Bates, parents, Earnest and Clotilde Bates, sister, Dionie Tolman, and brother, Robert “Bob” Bates.
Roy served in the United States Army 1969-1971 and was awarded the Purple Heart for combat injuries sustained in Vietnam and numerous medals for his service.
Roy worked at FMC Technologies for 36 years, 1972 - 2008. He collaborated in projects earning industry awards and government patents.
His many varied interests include baseball (Colt 45’s, now Astros), music, golf, fishing, outdoor cooking, and anything the beach.
Roy loved his family and friends. Roy - a greatly loved and respected man.
