Obituary for
Gay Lynn Bratton
Gay Lynn Bratton of Huffman, Tx passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the age of 74. She was born May 1, 1947, in Lubbock, Tx to J.C. and Valene (Buchanan) Harris. After graduating from O’Donnell High School, she attended Texas Tech University earning a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. About a year before she graduated, on January 27, 1968 she married the love of her life, Richard Marion Bratton who had joined the United States Air Force. The Air Force took Richard and Gay to Tampa, Florida, and then Iceland before they settled in the Lubbock area in the mid 70’s. Gay started a career as a Math teacher at Shallowater High School and continued investing in students at Medina Valley High School in Castroville, Tx before she retired in San Antonio. Most recently, Gay and Richard lived in Huffman, Tx where she enjoyed life with her children and grandchildren, faithfully attending church when her health allowed. Throughout her life, Gay enjoyed traveling, sitting on the back patio watching birds, watching sports on the television, and meeting up with her “Lunch Bunch” friends.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard Marion Bratton of Huffman; children, Richard Lynn Bratton of Kingwood, Lisa Renee Harden and husband, Mark Harden of Boerne and Stephen Paul Bratton; brothers, Michael Jay Harris and wife, Carla of Streetman, Tx, Tommy Ryan Harris and wife Suzie of Ocala, Fl; grandchildren, McKenzie Carter and husband, Britton, McKennah Harden, Ashleigh Corbett and husband, James, and Ethan, Alexandrea, Ian, Evan, Alyssa, and Isaiah Bratton; many extended family and friends.
Gay was preceded in death by her parents, J. C. on July 12, 1977, and Valene on March 6, 2014; mother-in-law, Maxine Nelson in 2019; and sister-in-law, Rita Bratton in 2020.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Rosewood Funeral Home in Atascocita, Tx. A celebration of life service will take place at 12:00 pm on the same day, also at Rosewood Funeral Home in Atascocita with interment to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble, Tx.
