Condolence: Best Boss and friend ever. I joined DG 2009 worked for Steve for 7 years. Just finding out he has passed made me extremely sad today. He not only was a boss to me but a friend. Was part of the number one team he built. Best bunch of ladies. Steve always has us fought for us. Will forever be grateful. Condolence: Steve and I worked together for 12 years at Dollar General. He was the best boss anyone could ask for. Compassionate, kind,helpful,knew how to motivate people to be the best.He respected people and was a great listener and teacher.At the end of my time with DG, I told him I was going to work somewhere that was easier, not so hard on me physically, his words to me I will never forget, Donna, you created that, don't do it again wherever you go,it's not worth it. Enjoy your job and life. Whenever I am stressed or pushing myself to hard to be successful, his words always come to my mind and I rethink the situation. You see he and I started at Dg about the same time, and the store I ran barely made money, between his knowledge and motivation, that store became #10 in the company. We were the talk of the company on its success. He was a wonderful man who spoke of his family with pride and love. I went to work for another company that he and Susan would come in frequently and it always was soo great to see them and keep in touch. Even then he would give me advice or help answer questions. I will miss him terribly. Prayers to Susan and his family on their journey of life without this amazing man.

Condolence: I am one of those "best boss I ever had" merchandisers. I remember when Steve first started as a DPM....He got stuck with me and a nightmare of one of the Family Dollar conversions as his first store. I quickly discovered that I was going to enjoy him being one of my supervisors. Because he had been a DM, he understood our challenges. He would jump in with us and work just as hard. He could put together the most beautiful Seasonal sections! He was kind and compassionate and he was like family to alot of us. He always had our backs.....and we had his. I have funny stories and great memories of some of my times with Steve, that I will carry with me always. So, Uncle Steve, your earthly journey has ended and I consider myself blessed to have known and worked with you. To the family, I pray for you Peace, Comfort and Blessings.
