Obituary for Ronnie Carroll Clements

Ronnie Carroll Clements, born October 7, 1948, in Galveston, TX, passed away on April 16, 2021, in Humble, TX, at the age of 72. Ronnie was preceded in death by his father and mother, William Henry and Marie Clements, his brother Wayne Clements, and his nephew Dustin Harvey. He is survived by Harriett Clements, daughter Stephanie Gee (Glen), sister Pamela Gripe (Larry), grandchildren Giuliana and Brendan Gee, niece Ashley Staley (Craig), niece Megan Lilley, great niece Halle Staley, great nephew Barran Lilley, along with numerous family members and friends that will miss him greatly.

Ronnie attended Texas City High School, where he was a Fighting Stingaree, playing all four years on the basketball team, becoming district champs ‘65-66, and eventually earning the title of MVP ‘66-67. Ronnie’s nickname was Cheetah, which some people still called him. He had a lot of pride about being from Texas City, loved his high school and old friends, and also loved to talk about how his basketball picture still hangs in Texas City High School after all these years.

After high school, Ronnie attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1975, with a degree in Business Administration. Anyone that knew Ronnie, knew his love for the Longhorns. Since 1968, he only missed attending one home game, until walking became hard for him in recent times, and he could not climb those stadium stairs anymore. He remained an unwavering supporter of the Horns, even during off seasons, and had a room in the house, and even tattoos, dedicated to all things burnt orange and white. There is no doubt he is in Heaven talking football with some of the great Horns of the past.

Ronnie and Harriett married June 29, 1974, in Houston, TX. They had Stephanie in 1978, and Ronnie was so proud to become a father. Over the years, many memories were made as a family, that will never be forgotten; there were fun times on family vacations, especially. Ronnie always knew how to make them laugh, and to make anyone laugh, with his big smile and infectious personality. He was always the biggest supporter of Stephanie, and was so proud when she graduated college and eventually moved to Austin for work (mostly because he now had some place to stay for all those home games!). Ronnie was also so excited when his grandchildren were born. When they were old enough, he spoke to them on the phone every night to hear about their day. They loved their Papa, and miss him greatly.

Ronnie spent his career as a Contract Administrator in the oil and gas industry, at Valero Energy in San Antonio, TX and Houston, TX, and then at Anadarko Petroleum in The Woodlands, TX. He enjoyed his work, and worked hard at it. He enjoyed befriending many co-workers, some he continued to stay in touch with after many years.

A memorial service will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble, TX, on May 22, 2021, at 12:00 pm. The family thanks everyone for reaching out with such wonderful stories about Ronnie. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Diabetes Association in his honor, if you wish.
