Obituary

Ronald L Richardson Sr., 72, of Kingwood, TX peacefully passed away on April 1st, 2021 surrounded by loved ones, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
Ron was born on June 6th, 1948 to George and Edna Richardson in Rochester, New York.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Phyllis; sons Ron Jr., Ryan; daughter – in – law Jessica; grandchildren Henry and Vivienne; brothers George (Barb), Ken (Tracy), Roger (Nancy); Sisters Lynda (Jim), Marie (Dan) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father George, mother Edna, stepmother Vivian, and brother Mark.
After an adventurous childhood and as time as a young adult, Ron began his career in the oilfield with Drilco (Morgan, City, Louisiana) in the early 1970’s. He took a position with Stabil Drill in 1980 in Houston and was responsible for opening several districts including Corpus Christi, Oklahoma City, Midland/Odessa, Casper, Bakersfield, and Edmonton. After working in several upper management roles with Gammaloy and National Oilwell Varco, he retired from Drilling Tools International Inc. in 2020.
Ron was an avid coin/gun collector and enjoyed his annual hunting trip to South Texas with Ron Jr., his late father George, and friends. He also loved frequent trips to Las Vegas and playing golf with his two sons and close friends.
His passion was helping/developing others to be their best and spending quiet days with his family.
He adored his two grandchildren and loved being their “Pa”.
Ron was one of those unique “special individuals” that led a relatively simple life but profoundly touched so many in his path. He will be greatly missed by those that knew him. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, advisor, and friend. He was a man of hard work, common sense, integrity, and honor. He lived his life to love and provide for his family, and encouraged others to make the most out of every day.
A memorial is scheduled for 2pm on April 24th, 2021 at Rosewood in Porter, TX. Chaplain Don Savell will officiate the ceremony. Condolences or memories can be shared at https://www.rosewood.cc/book-of-memories/4574928/Richardson-Ronald/index.php . The family would like to thank the huge outpouring of family, friends, neighbors, and medical staff for everyone’s prayers, generosity, support, and most of all… love. Our family is beyond grateful to each and every one of you.

Ron was one of the finest people I ever met.
Ron was responsible for , so many people , turning jobs into careers.
He once told me “All I can do is give the opportunity, it’s up to the individual to do something with it”.
He saw things , in his employees , that they didn’t see themselves.

I’ll never forget the sign behind Ron’s desk that said “Lead , follow or get the he** out of the way”.
Ron led and helped to turn so many others into leaders.

He will be missed.

I first met Ron in Dubai when we both worked for NOV. He was there for meetings and we immediately connected due to our overlapping career paths and shared interests. After joining DTI, it was great to find out he would be a colleague once again. Ron was shared many learnings with me regarding running a shop and providing insight that helped do my job. He always made himself available if you needed help or his wanted his valuable input. He will be missed. My sincerest condolences to Phyllis, Ron Jr., Ryan and the rest of his family.

Ron was one of my favorite people of all time. His kind smile and gentle words were always appreciated at the office. He was a wonderful person. I loved hearing his travel stories and witnessing the joy he got from his visits to Oregon and from being with his family. You will be dearly missed, Ron Sr. May you rest in eternal peace and may God give comfort and peace to your family and friends.
