Obituary for Patricia Ann Hickey

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Patricia A. Hickey, beloved wife, devoted mother, and exceptional friend to all. She left us while peacefully sleeping at Vitas Hospice in The Woodlands. She was born on February 13, 1959 in Eagle Pass, Texas. Patricia was educated in the Eagle Pass School System and attended Texas State University in San Marcos, TX.
Patricia met the love of her life, Rome, in High School in 1974. They were united in holy matrimony in 1980. This union was blessed with four wonderful children.
Patricia was a dedicated member of Lakeway Baptist Church. She devoted her life to God, her Lord and Savior. She enthusiastically taught Sunday School for over 25 years. She greatly enjoyed directing the drama department at church. She also loved to read her Bible and pray for others. She was very detail- oriented in all her endeavors, some might even say she was a perfectionist. Patricia always had an eye for design, such as decorating a cake and creating a gorgeous floral arrangement. She aspired to one day open a wedding venue and call it “La Vista Hermosa”.
She recently retired from the Tax Organization with Entergy Corporation as an Executive Administrative Assistant. Patricia was extremely committed to her career and her co-workers became family. She was deeply loved and respected by many.
Patricia was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in 2018. She fought this progressive muscle weakening disease for as long as she could. She remained positive and joyous and continued to be a blessing to her family and all those around her despite the fatal prognosis.
Patricia was preceded in death by her late father, Jesus De La Garza, father-in-law William B. Hickey and precious grandson, Bronx J. Phillips.
Survivors include her mother, Dora De La Garza of Eagle Pass; husband, Rome R. Hickey of Kingwood; three daughters and their spouses; Jessica and Brian Kateb of Houston; Jennifer and Qaadir Phillips of Bluffton, SC; Amber and Zach Hamlin of Kingwood; one son Bradley B. Hickey of Kingwood and nine adorable grandchildren.
As well as four brothers and their spouses; Jesus and Yolanda De La Garza; Leo and Denise De La Garza; Rolando De La Garza; Sergio and Marie De La Garza. Furthermore, three sisters and their spouses; Lillian and John Flores; Leticia Garza; Selina and Javier Garza, and numerous loving aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
She is also survived by her mother-in-law Sue Hickey and three sisters-in-law and their spouse; Lynne and Greg Alt; Lydia Hickey; and Lisha Maxey.
Forever in our hearts, her memory will live on in us.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105
