Marilyn Ruth Harris (Harris)
Marilyn R. Harris (82) of Kingwood, Texas, a wonderful wife and mother, passed away on January 21, 2021 after a long illness. She is now at peace with the Lord. Marilyn was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on January 18, 1939, to Reece T. and Inez Harris. As a young child, she lived several years in New Orleans before moving to Denver, Colorado, with her parents. She graduated from Denver East High School in 1957. She attended the University of Colorado for one year and then the University of Texas in Austin, where she obtained a degree in English Literature in 1961. She worked at Rice University for a short period of time. She also worked as a real estate agent while living in Corpus Christi, Texas in the 1980’s.
While attending the University of Texas, she met Gregg Harris. They were married in December 1961. Gregg worked for Humble Oil and Refining Company (now ExxonMobil) and they lived in the South Texas area in or near Corpus Christi and San Antonio. In 1992, they moved to Kingwood, Texas.
As a young adult, Marilyn accepted the Lord as her Savior (Jn 3:16, Eph 2:8, 9). She loved to study the Bible by herself and with her husband and friends. She loved the Lord. She is a member of United City Church in Humble, Texas. For many years, Marilyn was a verse listener for the AWANA Clubs and a teacher in Good News Clubs.
Marilyn enjoyed playing bridge. While living in Kingwood, she played bridge with her dear friend Shirley Vlaun. Marilyn and Gregg enjoyed traveling. She enjoyed her grandchildren.
In 2009, Marilyn was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Later, this diagnosis was changed to Atypical Parkinsonism. During the last years of her life, Marilyn required full time assistance as she could not walk and talk.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Gregg Harris, of 59 years and their two children, Glen Harris (wife Linda) of Plano, Texas and Cheryl Heslep (husband Greg) of Corpus Christi, Texas. She is also survived by brother Reece T. Harris, Jr. (wife Julie) of Portland, Oregon, and brother Stephen Harris (wife Marie) of San Antonio, Texas.
Marilyn is survived by four grandchildren – Devyn Heslep, Brandon Heslep, Nathan Heslep and Lindsie Harris.
Gregg expresses thanks to his Sunday School Class and friends for their kind words, support and prayers. He also thanks Cecelia Wilturner for home care. He thanks Pilar Evans, Tomika Stovall, Kenneth McClenny and Marcia Hutchinson for hospice care. He thanks Reginna Babin, C-FNP, for medical care.

The funeral service will be Wednesday February 3, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Rosewood Memorial Park, 2602 South Houston Ave. Humble Texas, under the direction of Pastor Larry Dangerfield.
The memorial service will be on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the United City Church, 19901 Townsend Blvd., Humble, TX under direction of Pastor Chris Kouba.
