Bill G. Healer, 90 died on December 18, 2020 after being diagnosed with aggressive stomach cancer. Bill was born on Oct 15, 1930 in Abbott, TX. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Baylor University. After graduation he began his career with the City of Houston Surface Water department in 1960. He stayed working in the field until his eighties.
Bill was predeceased by his only sibling Bobby Broussard and daughter Michelle.
He is survived by his wife Bernice and four children, Garlan, Harlan, Kathy, Kevin and three grandchildren Kaylin, Halle and Gwen.
He loved to hunt and fish. It was truly his passion. He missed not being able to hunt deer this year, but did get to go turkey hunting three times and one final dove hunt in September with his sons and one granddaughter.
The Lutheran Church was a very important part of Bill’s life. He was a member of Mt Olive and Zion Lutheran Church for many decades. He was an Elder for many years and very helpful in facility improvements.
He was glad to be able to have time to reflect on his life in the final months.

Flowers will be accepted at Zion Lutheran Church Pasadena, 5050 East Sam Houston Pkwy S, Pasadena, TX 77505 on Saturday, December 26 between the hours of 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
In Lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to Zion Lutheran Church Pasadena.
The Funeral Service will be taped and available for viewing on Zion Lutheran Church website http://www.zionpasadena.org/ within 1 day of service.

Billy (Bill) Gene Healer of Pasadena Texas

The family grew up sharecropping and Bill starting working on the farm picking cotton at a young age. Life was hard and the family did not get electricity until Bill was 10 years old, but this is where he found his love of hunting and fishing.
The family left the farm to move to Waco Texas.
Bill visited other relatives where he helped pick cotton or worked hard helping them out. While visiting his Aunt and Uncle in San Diego they offered for him to stay with them to complete his senior year in High School where he played baseball. He graduated from San Diego High School in San Diego, CA in 1948. After graduation he moved back to Texas where he got a job and attended junior college.
The Korean War was starting and since he was likely to be drafted he signed up for the Air Force where he was stationed in Montana and Iceland. He worked in supply chain and attained the rank of Staff Sargent. He enjoyed playing on the bases’ football teams and helped lead these teams to many victories.
After leaving the Air Force in 1955 he attended Baylor University in Waco, TX where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Minor in Biology in 1960. During his first summer break from Baylor he came to Houston for summer work where he met his wife Bernice through a friend. Two years later they were married on July 6, 1957 in Houston, TX. After a honeymoon to Yellowstone National Park they stayed in Waco until he completed his degree.
After graduation they moved to Houston where Bill got a job as a Chemist for the City of Houston Water department. Bill and Bernice purchased a nice single family home close to Houston’s Hobby Airport and started to grow their family to include five children. In 1974 they moved to a bigger house in Pasadena, TX staying to raise their family and live after retirement.
Bill loved his job and with his strong work ethic was eventually promoted to Manager of the City of Houston Surface Water Production. He was a member of The American Water Works, American Public Works and Sam Houston Water Utilities Associations and enjoyed attending the many events that were hosted. He also held many positions in various Water Utility fields.
He retired from the City of Houston in 1988 and went to work for the City of Deer Park public works, helping build and run their new water treatment plant. He retired from the City of Deer Park after 10 years. He then got a another part time job working for L J Engineering which he continued to work for until he was 87 years old.
After retiring from the City of Deer Park he purchased land in South Texas where loved to take family and friends on hunting trips.
He loved hunting and fishing and was blessed to be able to go on hundreds if not thousands of hunting and fishing trips with friends and family.
Bill and Bernice were active in Zion Lutheran Church and were passionate members of the congregation. Bill held various positions in the church like Church Elder and was always ready to help on anything requested of him for church operations.
Bill loved being part of a community and greatly valued personnel connections.
