Obituary for
Glenn Merlin Parmer
Glenn Parmer, born on a day of love, February 14, 1931, gained his wings and left this earth on a day of blessings, Thanksgiving, November 26, 2020.
Growing up, Glenn spent most of his free time hunting and fishing, along with working on his family land and at the Thompson ranch in Georgetown, TX. After graduating from Jarrell High School, he joined the Navy at age 17. He earned a Class “A” radioman certificate from the Navy in San Diego, California in 1948. He left the military with honors, having enjoyed a tour of duty that included Singapore and the Philippines on the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer.
He began his work life in banking and ventured into retail ownership. He worked most of his career for Tilson and Superior Homes in build-on-your-lot home sales for landowners in Texas. During that time, he married Jo Ann Galaway and raised two children, Tuler and Glenda, with her. After a successful career and the death of Jo Ann, he remarried. Glenn was then married 28 wonderful years to Joyce Wiggins and retired to run their farm in Caldwell Texas. An avid hunter, farmer, angler and wildlife enthusiast, his family has learned volumes from his experience, wit and wisdom.
A descendent of Martin Parmer, one of the leaders of the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico, he is preceded in death by parents Herman and Minnie Parmer, wife Jo Ann Parmer, sister Verdena Parmer Kidd and brother Randall Parmer. He leaves behind wife Joyce Parmer, daughter and son-in-law Tuler and Al Crawford and their children, grandson Jimmy Torres and wife Monica Torres, grandson Dillon Torres, granddaughter Tommie Torres, daughter and son-in-law Glenda Parmer Beasley and Ernest Beasley III and their son, Grayton Glenn Beasley, stepson John Spillman and his daughter Paige Spillman and son Raymond Spillman, stepson Edward Spillman and spouse Terry, and Edward’s daughter Michele Shu and husband Ray Shu, stepson Doug Spillman and his daughter Brianna Spillman, plus eight great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home at 2602 South Houston Ave. in Humble, TX 77396 on Friday, December 4th, 2020 at 2pm. Visitation is from 12n-1p for family and from 1p-2pm for guests at Rosewood. Interment will be held after the services at Rosewood Memorial Park.
Flowers may be sent to Rosewood. In lieu of flowers, Glenn believed “charity begins at home”. If you have a loved one in need, please take care of them in his honor.
