Obituary for Payton Eugene Stone

Payton Eugene (“Gene”) Stone,
90, passed away November 19, 2020 in Westminster, CO. Gene was born on March 1, 1930 in Highlands, TX to Payton Blunt and Ola Lee Stone, who preceded him in death. Gene is also preceded in death by his wife Mary; his son Ted Stone; siblings, Louise Bryan,
Oleta King, Joyce Adams, Homer Lee (Bud) Stone. Gene is a graduate of Tarkington High School in Cleveland,TX. He married Mary Ethel Summersil on July 22, 1955 and they shared 61 wonderful years together. Gene and Mary traveled around the USA for 30 years in
their many motorhomes. For 25 years, they would leave in May and return home on Labor Day, traveling from Estes Park, CO to Mayhill, NM. Gene was the “perfect little angel” and would always wait “tenderly, patiently” as Mary would get everything together so
they could “make a move.” Gene and Mary have been longtime members of the Watters Road Church of Christ.
Gene is survived by his daughters Cookie Hawthorn and husband Scott, and LaJune Heaton and husband Mike; grandchildren Daniel Hawthorn, Lexi Huang and her husband Matthew, and Randi Heaton; sisters Lennie Carter, and Madeline Kelley and her husband James; along with numerous nieces, nephews,
and life-long dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 11AM at Watters Road Church of Christ in Pasadena, TX. Funeral services will be held immediately after at 12PM. Burial will be at 1:30PM at Grand View Cemetery, 8501 Spencer Hwy.
Privileged to serve as pallbearers Mike Heaton, Scott Hawthorn, Daniel Hawthorn, Mike Stone, Kenny Kelly, and Travis Stone. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Hooper, Walter Eggers, and David Burt.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lawrence Hazelip Scholarship Fund in care of Watters Road Church of Christ, 3616 Watters Rd, Pasadena, TX 77504.
