Obituary for Erwin Galitz

Erwin Galitz, our beloved “Papi”, 99, was called to be with our Father in Heaven on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 in Porter, TX. He was born on October 18, 1921 in Greifswald, Germany to Friedrich and Anna Galitz. Papi, as he was known to many friends, was preceded in death by his wife Kaethe “Mutti” Galitz. He is survived by his sons, Wolfgang Galitz and Dirk Galitz of Germany; daughter, Gudrun Galitz; grandchildren, Joerg Galitz, Nadine Tietgen, and Jasmin Geiger of Germany; great-grandchildren, Felicia, Levi, Leilani, Tom, and Sam of Germany.
Papi finished his apprenticeship to be a baker in Lubmin by the Baltic Sea. He served in the German Navy during World War II, and joined German customs after the war ended. He met the love of his life Kaethe, a nurse, after the war ended in 1945 in Kiel, Germany. Both came to Porter, TX to be with their daughter, Gudrun, in 1992 due to Kaethe’s terminal illness.
Papi loved life, people and animals, gardening, soccer, nature, and just being happy.
The viewing followed by a memorial service will be on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 beginning at 12pm at Rosewood Funeral Home, 22271 US Highway 59, Porter, TX 77365. Papi will be laid to rest next to his wife on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 1pm at the Winchester Cemetery at 8315 FM 153 Winchester, TX.
