Walter Joe Nelson
Walter Joe Nelson passed away at his residence on August 28, 2020 at 69 years of age. He was born in Austin, TX to Walter F. and Claudia E. (Nolte) Nelson. He served in the US Navy from 1969-1973 aboard the USS Paul Revere. He married Dona Elaine Bullock and just celebrated 41 years of marriage. Joe retired from Southern Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad. Fishing was his passion and what he was really passionate about is teaching others the sport. Hours of volunteer time were spent at Jesse Jones Park teaching fishing classes. Joe was a volunteer for Texas Parks and Wildlife as an Angler Educator. He also enjoyed bringing smiles to children's faces at Christmas time playing St. Nicholas at Jesse Jones Parks Old Fashioned Christmas.
His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren; those by blood and those by love. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife and children, the loves of his life; Jessica of Splendora, TX and Stephanie of Round Hill, VA. Grandchildren; Cody and Erielle Marsh of Fayetteville, NC; Tabatha Marsh of Cleveland, TX; Cameron Robinson of Splendora, TX. His sisters; Susan and husband Troy Ellett of Burnet, TX and Mary Ann and husband Vance Pennington of Burnet, TX. Numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
A memorial service for Joe will be held at White Oak Cemetery, New Caney, Saturday September 26, 2020 at 10:00 AM..
