Obituary for Cynthia Denise Barker

Cynthia Denise Barker
Cynthia Denise Barker began life on August 28, 1959 in Texarkana in a hospital that she never hesitated to point out was on the right side (Texas, naturally) of the border at that time. Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Bob Barker, her mother Marillyn Sliger, her uncle, Kip Sliger , her uncle John David Barker and her aunt Sheryl Burgess. She is survived by her life partner , Vicky Fealy, her sister, Dia Robertson, niece Christina Robertson and her fiancée Luke Wallace, brother Rob Barker, aunt Vivian Barker, uncle John Burgess , Jim and Raylene Fealy, Joe Fealy and Tina Gunn as well as many cousins in Arkansas and Ohio.
Cindy graduated from Sharpstown High School in 1977. She attended Rice University from 1977 to 1981 but was unable to complete her degree at that time due to unforeseen circumstances. She was able to proudly graduate from Rice with a BA in Political Science in 2011 due to her customary dogged determination. She cherished that hard earned diploma!

In the years between she became an enrolled actuary and worked at several firms as a retirement benefits specialist. In the last few years, she has been happily employed at Bank of America.
She had a travel bug which began when she spent a summer abroad in Spain during her college years.  She and Vicky were fortunate to be able to share many travels together, discovering new places and revisiting favorites spots throughout Europe and Mexico, either alone together or with cherished friends and family. The memories made and laughter shared on those trips will last a lifetime for those lucky enough to share in the travels.

Cindy loved all things aerial—whether it be a hot air balloon trip or tracking and watching planes from her backyard. She loved to share with people the types and destinations of planes. She and Vicky and friends were always excited to watch the 4:00 plane to Paris fly over the house. Cindy’s love of all things aerial extended to star and planet gazing as well as anything related to NASA or space travel.
Cindy had joie di vivre which she shared with all of those around her. Cindy had an inquisitive mind. She dearly loved books and learning new things and loved to share new discoveries with others. She took great pride in figuring out how things work and being able to fix them. Cindy was kind and gentle with a mischievous air of fun. She will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Casa de Esperanza, Rescue Pets Movement in Cindy’s name, or to a charitable cause close to your heart.
