Obituary for
Douglas King Jones
Douglas King Jones passed away Tuesday, June 2nd at 52 years of age. Doug died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous 12-month battle with brain cancer. Since his diagnosis in May 2019, Doug fought every day with positivity and courage – his determination was inspiring to all around him.
Doug was born in Rochester, NY and raised in Wilton, CT. A natural and talented athlete, he played football for Wilton High School, Blair Academy and Hobart College – where he was also a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Known as “the General,” Doug also enjoyed many summers as a camper and counselor at Camp Agawam in Maine.
Doug was an avid and gifted golfer – golf was his true passion, along with cheering for his beloved Dallas Cowboys and NY Yankees. Doug also coached his daughters’ youth soccer teams and lacrosse teams.
Doug enjoyed a long, successful career in the oil & gas industry and will be remembered by his colleagues as a consummate professional and a great team player. He was a man of high integrity and has left a lasting memory as a great mentor to many in the industry.
Doug is survived by his wife of 18 years, Melissa (Haller) Jones and his daughters, Samantha and Emily Jones of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his mother and brother – Sally Jones of New London, NH, and Mark Jones of Manchester, NH, as well as many close friends and extended family members.
Doug will always be known as a loving and loyal friend, a devoted husband, and an amazing father. Anyone who met Doug knows he could brighten the entire room with his presence and warmth – and he always lit up a party! He lived each and every day to the fullest and he will be dearly missed.
