Obituary for Janet Marie Brunson

Janet Marie Brunson
Janet Marie Brunson was called home to her place of eternal rest and peace on Friday, May 15, 2020.

“Her Life”
Janet was born on October 21, 1951 in Akron, Ohio to parents Leo and Arnater Yarbrough. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Edward Lee Brunson, by her father Leo Yarbrough and her brother Kenneth (Butch) Yarbrough.

While growing up, Janet went to grade school in Akron before attending college at Wilberforce University. She was married to her husband Edward on November 5, 1977 in St. Francis, Pennsylvania. Edward and Janet soon began their family and relocated to Houston, TX in 1981. She had a 20 plus year career at Continental Airlines, where she retired before building a new career as an esteemed real estate agent.

Janet was a woman of high integrity, strong moral character and even stronger faith. She was a member of West End Church in Houston.

“Her Laughter and Leisure”
Janet always found great pleasure in spending quality time and making cherished memories with her loving family, especially her two grandchildren who affectionately called her “Gigi.” She also enjoyed traveling, attending concerts and art exhibits, partaking in delightful meals with friends, boutique shopping and volunteer work. In addition, Janet appreciated the value in taking time for herself to just “be still” and would often spend days relaxing in her garden and quiet evenings reading books.

“Her Legacy”
Janet is survived by her two adoring sons, Bryan Edward Lee and Brandon Michael Leo Brunson, daughter in-law Brandi Brunson, and grandchildren Blaine Edward Brunson and Blair Victoria Brunson. She is also survived by her Mother, Arnater Yarbrough, sister Susan Hannah, brothers Bruce and Leo Yarbrough, Jr., along with a host of other nieces and nephews.

- “A Child of God, & Blessed with the Gift of Eternal Life “

“Her Resting Place”
Janet will be laid to rest next to Edward, her husband and love of her life, in the “Garden of the Apostles.”

Our Gratitude
The family of Janet Marie Brunson would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation for the many prayers, calls, floral tributes, and other expressions of kindness. We would also like to extend a special thanks to her “Chicka,” Tanya Mackey, lifelong friends Edward and Gail Weems, close friends Perry and Alice Forman, Claude and Anne Whitaker, Lynn Vanderhider and Chrys Chittie, supportive care giver Joyce Collins, and the Harbor Hospice staff. Your compassion and thoughtfulness will always be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests that you please make a donation to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Janet Brunson’s name.
