Obituary for James "J.L" Wilson

James "J.L" Wilson
J.L. Wilson, 97, was born December 5, 1922, and passed away May 4, 2020
J.L. grew up in East Texas working on farms with his family. He joined the US Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII. He married Shirley Mae Dunn September 13, 1947 after meeting at their workplace.
He was a 50+ year Master Mason, receiving his fifty year pin at the lodge in Humble, TX. He retired from Herrin Transport after 33 years of employment.
J.L. was a self-taught musician who enjoyed listening to blue grass, gospel and country music, playing along on his fiddle, guitar, mandolin or harmonica. He had a special group of long-time musician friends who would come from Kingwood, Pasadena and Woodville TX for jam sessions. He really enjoyed these gatherings and his family would like to express our gratitude to these special men for their kind dedication to our dad. A special thanks to Mac for his frequent visits and phone calls to dad through the years.
He and son, Jim Wilson had an annual tradition of going to the National Fiddlers Championship in Crockett, TX. They enjoyed this tradition and looked forward to it each year.
After his wife Shirley passed away in 2005, he became very self- sufficient, doing his own cooking, cleaning, shopping and laundry. He was good at it; buttermilk pie was his specialty.
Preceded in death by wife Shirley Wilson, parents Regor and Elnor Wilson, brother O.D. Wilson, sisters Murl, Martha and Lucille, great grandson Craig Alan.
Survived by son Jim and Polly Wilson, daughters Beverly and Jimmy Reneau, Peggy and Greg Frederick, Leasa Garner, brother Herb and Helen Wilson, 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren.
Dad was part of the Greatest Generation and was amazing in his longevity and ability to rebound. However, he could not overcome complications of the Corona virus. He was loved and will be missed.
