Obituary for
Wilma Frances Lewis (Duty)
Wilma Frances Lewis, beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9th 2020. Wilma was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on May 23, 1935. She was the 5 th of 7 children born to C.T. and Minnie (Humphries) Duty. She is preceded by her brothers and sisters including Lois Maxine McAllister, Clifford Duty, Wayne Duty, Don Duty, and Barbara (Toline) Witherspoon. She is survived by her bother Jimmy Duty and his wife Melba. A longtime resident of Deer Park, Texas, she is preceded by her husband of 58 years, Rex (Deryl) Lewis. Born during the Great Depression, Wilma valued all of life's little gifts and saw the good in everything and everyone. She lived a simple life with simple means in a small two room farm house that did not have any indoor plumbing with her 6 siblings and parents. Wilma graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1953 where she met her husband, Deryl shortly after.
They were married on May 20 th , 1955. In 1956, after the birth of her first child, Donna, she became the epitome of the ultimate 1950’s wife and homemaker. In 1962, she relished being a new mom again when Deryl and Wilma decided to adopt their son, Ken. Wilma was the matriarch of the Lewis family and was the rock that the family relied on. She was loving, caring, giving, a caretaker, a cook, a teacher of life, a childcare helper, a
volunteer, a confidant, and yes….even a real life clown. Wilma will be remembered as a selfless wife and mother who always had a smile even when times were tough. She had a quiet strength and always was there to lend a helping hand without being asked. She never complained and always looked to a better future. A long time member at the Southside Church of Christ in Pasadena, Wilma was a devout Christian and demonstrated her enduring faith every day. She always sacrificed her own needs for the good and benefit of others. We find it truly appropriate that Wilma joined Heaven’s angels on the weekend that celebrates “Mothers”! After living her young adult life in Wichita Falls, TX, Wilma and Deryl moved to Deer Park, TX in 1965 where they raised their two children, Donna and Ken. In 2001 Deryl and Wilma moved to Keller, TX where they lived near their son until their move back to Deer Park in 2012 just prior to Deryl’s passing.
Wilma’s greatest loves were the Lord and her family. She is survived by her two children: daughter Donna Hamilton and husband Robert; son Ken Lewis and wife Regina; She is also survived by her grandchildren
Kimberly Andrews, Leann Santiago, Julie and her husband Jeremy Sorenson of Deer Park, Texas and
granddaughters Ashley and Kelsey Lewis of Keller, and 6 great grandchildren; Rachel, Ricky, Alyssa, Isabella,Presley and Liam.
