Obituary for John Joseph Willmann

John Joseph Willmann passed away peacefully at his home in Kingwood, Texas on May 1st 2020 at the age of 80.

Born on April 2nd 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri to Louis and Ruth Willmann, John was the second oldest of four rowdy boys. Early in John’s life, the family moved to Kansas City, where he graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1958. After graduation, he signed a professional contract with the St. Louis Cardinal’s minor league team in 1959, fulfilling a lifelong dream. He eventually moved back to St. Louis where he met the two loves of his life, Belle Lammers and four-year-old daughter, Tiffany. In 1974, the two got married at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. John and Belle later moved to Houston, Texas in 1985 where John enjoyed a 25-year career in property management, retiring in 2007.

John loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his big brother Bob, and continued playing sports like softball and racquetball for most of his life. In addition to sports, John enjoyed coaching softball and baseball for his two grandchildren. John’s grandchildren will never forget weekends on his boat or lazy Sunday mornings when he cooked a full “Papa Breakfast”. John also had a deep love of animals. Over the years, he had many dogs that were a part of his family. John was also known for the numerous stories he told. From the pride he felt of being a son of a bus driver to his many adventures as a property manager, John would share the stories of his life with everyone. As he grew older, John enjoyed the quiet aspects of life even more. He could often be found sitting in front of his living room window with his beloved dogs where he would relax and enjoy the view of his beautiful Kingwood neighborhood. This peaceful space was where John spent the last years of his life; content and happy with his dogs and family close by.

John Willmann is survived by his wife of 45 years, Belle Willmann; his children, Tiffany Carter (husband, Greg); Tina Mathes, and Scott Willmann; four grandchildren, Drew Bailey (wife, Jennifer), Victoria Bailey (fiancé, Rhett Taylor); one great-grandchild, Hudson Bailey; brothers, Tom Willmann, and Jim Willmann; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ruth Willmann; Son, John Willmann and Brother, Bob Willmann.

Due to current restrictions with COVID-19, a graveside service will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home on May 5th 2020 at 2pm for immediate family.

In lieu of flowers and to honor John’s lifelong love of all animals; especially his dogs, we ask that you donate to his favorite local charity, Ruff to Rescue Express. Donations can be made in his honor by going to www.rufftorescueexpress.org and clicking donate at the top of the page or by calling Glade Valley Veterinary Clinic at (281) 358-9070.
