Obituary for Michael Merle Ivy

Michael Merle  Ivy
Michael Merle Ivy, 72, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2020.

Michael, or Poppie as his grandchildren called him, was a retired petroleum engineer. He was the valedictorian of his graduating class at Leonard High School. Michael attended Rice University on a full academic scholarship; earning a B.S. and M.S. in Petrochemical Engineering.

His hobbies included spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, reading, listening to talk radio, calligraphy and learning languages like Russian, Hebrew and Spanish.

Michael is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda. His children: Nathan (Karen) Ivy, Matthew Ivy and Sharon (Jorge) Garcia. Poppie's grandchildren: Nicole and Bradley Ivy and Hudson and Mia Garcia, as well as many other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Billie Jack Ivy, and his brother Sam Ivy.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 21, from 12-2 at Rosewood Funeral Home Chapel in Porter, TX, followed by graveside services officiated by Carl Etchison.
