Richard Sheridan Phillips Jr. (affectionately known as Dick to his friends and family) was born August 7th, 1935 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He passed away on April 14th, 2020 in Kingwood, Texas. He was 84 years old.
Dick grew up in Lebanon, Pennsylvania and graduated from Lebanon High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy after graduating with a chemical engineering degree from Penn State University.
Dick began his career with Airco and Sheesley Construction in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Then in the 1970s Dick joined Air Liquide at their San Francisco Engineering office, where he grew their Construction Department from a few people to a large team managing multiple projects. His work took his family from Pennsylvania to New Jersey, California, Montreal and Texas. While in Montreal his leadership in the engineering office led to a strong and loyal organization. He retired as Vice President of Construction in 2000 in Houston, Texas. Dick was well respected by Air Liquide’s management worldwide as well as those who reported to him throughout his career. He was known for his professionalism, knowledge, experience, and most of all, his sincerity. Many that worked alongside Dick considered him a friend and mentor that aided them in their professional growth and fostered their careers.
Outside of work, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He attended every sporting event his grandchildren had and never missed a family dinner. Later in his life, after the passing of his wife Dorothy, Dick was blessed to have met Rita Bloodworth, whom he wed in 2012. Dick was an active member in his church, First Presbyterian Kingwood, where he was known as Richard by his friends and he enjoyed Sunday lunches with their group of friends. Richard was known throughout his life as a wine connoisseur and never missed a chance to share company and friendship over a glass of Cabernet.
He is survived by his wife Rita Bloodworth Phillips, his sister Mary Caughey, his daughter Audrey Crichton, his son Richard Sheridan Phillips III, his son-in-law, Jeff Crichton, his daughter-in-law, Melody Phillips, and his grandchildren, Mackenzie Moran and Adam Phillips, and his great-granddaughter Quinn Moran.
