Obituary for
Evelyn Jean Jenkins (Hudiburg)
Evelyn Jean Jenkins, 84, passed away in her son Steve and Pattye’s (daughter-in-law) home in League City TX on February 11, 2020, after a long battle with dementia. She was born on May 5, 1935 in Mission, Texas, to Forest Dale Hudiburg and Lucretia Adeline Hudiburg. She graduated from Field Kinley High School in Coffeyville, Kansas, where she was voted the Basketball Queen, and shortly thereafter married her husband of 45 years, John J. Jenkins, also of Coffeyville. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always enjoying spending time with her family, which was very important to her. In lieu of a working career, she chose instead to stay home to take care of her family. She was also a very giving person, donating to Wounded Warriors, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). She also generously donated her time, serving as the head of the blood drive at Memorial Southwest Hospital for many years. She was also a life-long Methodist, and she volunteered at the Society of St Stephens ministry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Jenkins, son Louis Andrew Jenkins and grandson Jeffrey Lyle Jenkins.
She is survived by her son Johnny Joe Jenkins, Jr (Jay) and Jodi McCartney, son Stephen D. Jenkins and wife Patricia Jenkins, brother William K. Hudiburg, and sister Betty Hunt.
She is survived by her grandchildren Kenny Jenkins and wife Bridget Jenkins, Cristy Palmer and husband Mike Palmer, Misty Foster and husband Jason Foster, Ryan Jenkins, Louis Jenkins and wife Jennifer Jenkins, John-Layton Jenkins and wife Melissa Jenkins, Kyle Jenkins and wife Courtney Jenkins, John Jenkins, Paige Sorge and husband Garrett Sorge. Step grandchild Nathan Smith & girlfriend Lala Trevino.
She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Sunset United Methodist Church, 709 Allendale, Pasadena TX. Visitation is from 9 – 11 AM, with the memorial service starting at 11:00 AM. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
