Obituary for Thelma Marie Bettis

Thelma Marie Prosperie Bettis prepared for this day from the very moment she surrendered her life to Christ many years ago. On February 9, 2020 she joyfully arrived at her heavenly home to eternally live with her Lord Jesus Christ.

Marie was born September 12, 1932 to Robert and Nora Alice Prosperie in Beaumont Texas. Her father tragically lost his life in an accident in Port Arthur harbor while working on the tugboat Magnolia in 1936.

At a young age she was unfortunately separated from both her parents but was able to overcome the challenges set before her and live a blessed life. Marie’s faith kept her grounded and steadfast. She was an example of graceful strength to all who knew and loved her.

Marie married Bobby Bettis from Winnie Texas, later moved and raised their family in the Humble area. They successfully established and operated Bettis Exxon in Porter Texas for many years until his much too soon passing.

Most important to Marie was family. Gatherings with the ones she loved were such memorable and fun times. Her MawMaw personality provided many special moments that will always be treasured in the hearts of each family member. Her big brown eyes will not soon be forgotten along with her sweet smile, wonderful sense of humor and soft voice. She always made each family member as though they were the “favorite” and there is still much discussion today as to who really was. May we all be as precious to our loved ones as she is to hers.

Preceded in death by her devoted husband Robert “Bobby” Bettis, Sr
