Obituary for
Genette Jean Parsons
Genette Martin Parsons passed away on February 10th in Pasadena, Texas. She is survived by her husband, Ward Chester Parsons III, her two children, Ashley Parsons Foehner and Ward Chester Parsons IV, and her three grandchildren, Chloe, Emily, and Hunter.
Genette was happiest surrounded by family. She hosted many holidays and celebrations at her home in Seabrook and particularly enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Genette later moved to Mobile, Alabama where she attended the University of South Alabama, worked as a surgical technician, and met her husband, Ward. A cradle Episcopalian, Genette was an active member and leader in the church, serving as Director of Religious Education, acolyting, and earning a degree from Sewanee. She traveled the world to Sweden, France, and Ecuador and and joined her sister-in-law, Debi, on several eco-adventures including the Galapagos Islands to photograph wildlife and Churchill, Manitoba to see polar bears and seals. She spent vacations soaking up the sun in Maui with her daughter and trekking the Rubicon with her son.
Genette was an avid photographer and co-founded Heartworks, an international photography organization that reached children all over the world. She and her partner brought joy to thousands of families, providing portraits of their children that they might never have received.
A true southern belle, Genette was happiest in her Gulf Coast environs. She lived in Mobile, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Memphis, Dallas, and Houston. She loved vacations on the beach, Mardi Gras parades, having a house full of people, and baking egg custard pies with the “secret” family recipe. No cat was ever a
stranger to Genette, and many fortunate felines received her love and care throughout her life.
Friends and family will remember her as generous to a fault, loving and nurturing, and so often the life of the party. She was proud of her grandchildren, supportive in anyway possible, and delighted that they all have a bit of her wanderlust.
Memorial services will be announced later this spring. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made to:
