Obituary for
Robert Schriner
Robert Harold “Herb” Schriner was born in Lancaster, Ohio on October 5, 1942.
Herb was a man with great morals who was devoted to his family and his church. He had great charisma and a loving soul. He enjoyed many things: coffee, music, travel, gardening, teaching, helping people.
He played football in high school and his favorite subject was math. As a teenager, he played a lot of pranks but he was always a hard worker.
Herb served in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his return from Vietnam, he traveled the country until he met Louise on a blind date. They married months later in July of 1971, and successfully created their own happily ever after. His work in the oil field allowed him to travel all over the world. He loved to travel and experience other people and cultures. He marched with the Arabia Patrol of the Shriners for many years, and even won national championships as Captain of the Patrol.
Herb loved to sing. He used to sing old Irish lullabies to his daughters, he sang in many community plays and performances, and he was in the Atascocita UMC choir since its formation, previously in the Aldine UMC choir.
He loved to work outside. He was always finding something to do in the yard. Herb was a great gardener and loved to share the food that he grew. He was also a gardener of people. He helped people to grow and evolve into the best versions of themselves. Herb loved children and they loved him. He was very gentle and kind, but also firm and fair.
Herb is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Schriner. He is survived by his brother, Mike Schriner, and his children, Diane Cervantes, Robert Schriner Jr., Michael Schriner, and Paula Schriner, his grandchildren Tiffany Baggett, Taylor Cervantes, David Porter, and Amy Louise Porter; and his great grandchild, Nathaniel Ivey.
Contributions may be made in his name to the Atascocita UMC choir or the children’s programs.
