Obituary for Rainer K. Roggan

Rainer K. Roggan
Rainer was a beautiful soul. His gentle heart and loving smile welcomed those around him. He was a quiet man that spoke with thoughtfulness and meaning. He loved his family and completely adored his beautiful wife of 58 years Francisca.

Rainer was the third child born to Gottfried and Elfriede in Berlin, Germany. He had two older siblings, his brother Dieter and sister Ingrid and one younger brother Wilfried. He grew up in Germany during a time when family gatherings and taking care of one another where the means of survival and the importance of family bonds where permanently etched into the man, husband, father and grandfather that he became.

As a young man, Rainer studied at a Culinary School in Germany and soon thereafter he became an International Chef and then an Executive Chef. His skills afforded him the opportunity to travel and first landed him in Puerto Rico where he met the love of his life. Rainer adored and loved Francisca. Their love was truly a fairy tale that was filled with great memories, a deep love and lots of laughter. Together they shared great travel adventures, fine dining and most importantly raising 4 daughters.

Rainer enjoyed learning as much as he could about history and geography and would easily remember the dates and locations of events. He was great at math, remembering numbers and was fluent in 3 languages. Rainer enjoyed nature and often lead family adventures to the lake, on nature walks to feed the ducks, and bikes rides through the trails. He also loved all forms of soccer: playing, coaching and watching tournaments. And, he loved playing family games of chess and cards (Skat and Doppelkopf) for hours on end. Quite often he would test his card playing skills in Nationwide tournaments. Where he often won!

When Rainer became a grandfather he quickly became known to all as “OPA”. He completely loved being an Opa to his 8 grandchildren and became their mentor, friend, and confidant. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports, taught them how to play chess - to where family tournaments became the norm, and loved all the poolside family bbq’s. He looked forward to each and every visit and the smiles on his grandchildren’s faces filled his heart.

He was dearly loved, will be greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts.

Rainer was preceded in death by his Father Gottfried, his Mother Elfriede, and his Brothers Dieter and Wilfried.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Francisca, his 4 daughters Elfi, Aissa, Hazel and husband Jim, Tania and husband Christopher. His sister, Ingrid who lives in Germany. His nieces & nephew, Nadine, Claudia, Bettina and Michael.

His 8 grandchildren, Roggan and wife Amanda, Calan and husband Randy, Aspen and husband Justin, Justin, Dalton, Emily, Rainer, and Alex. And, his great grandchildren Conrad and Denver.
