Condolence: We moved in across the street from Frank & Doris in January 2016.
Anytime we saw "Mr. Frank", we were met with a warm greeting and a great conversation. He always made a point to talk to our, now, 4-year-old son. A while back, Frank had a garage sale at his house and after it was over, he stopped by to bring our son a couple of toy monster trucks. Frank said he had stashed them away for him so they wouldn't get sold.
Frank was better than any home security system you could have. I counted eleven text messages on my phone where Frank reminded me my garage door was open.
When my 16-year-old sister-in-law would baby sit our son, we left her the phone numbers for pizza and for Mr. Frank, in case of an emergency.
One time, our dog got out of the side fence and was exploring the neighborhood before Frank rounded her up for us. When we arrived home later that day, we saw Frank had installed a new board over the hole where our dog got out from. Going on three years later, the dog has not escaped Frank's carpentry skills.
I recently realized that the week of Thanksgiving was the first time I came home to find our garbage can wasn't rolled up to the garage door. I always thought the garbage men just liked us and moved it up the driveway to be nice.
It was Frank who liked us. It was Frank who was nice to us.
And we loved Mr. Frank. We will miss him.
I've read that half of Americans don't know their neighbor's names. I'm proud to have known Frank Monheiser.
