Obituary for Clint Moore

Clint Moore
Dwight “Clint” Moore
1956 - 2019

Dwight McClintock “Clint” Moore, 63, a resident of the Houston area for over 40 years, died on October 1, 2019 at his home in Spring, Texas.

Clint was born on September 9, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan to Clara and Al Moore. He is survived by his wife, Diana Stokes Moore. Clint was very proud to be an alumnus of Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where he attended Junior Kindergarten through High School Graduation. Generations of his family had attended Cranbrook Kingswood since the 1930s. Clint’s maternal grandmother lived in Beaumont and his love for everything Texas was from visiting her throughout her life. Upon graduating from Cranbrook, Clint “got to Texas as soon as he could” to attend Southern Methodist University in Dallas where he earned degrees in Geology and Business Finance & Economics.

Clint’s wife, Diana was the very epicenter of his world. Married for 32 years, Clint and Diana shared a life devoted to each other, celebrating and supporting one another, travelling the world together and taking in all the adventures their life yielded.

Clint was a dedicated son-in-law, uncle and brother-in-law and took great joy in traveling and creating family memories whether traveling together, spending quality time together at holidays or just partaking in the daily banter of life.

“I’m committed to bringing out the best in America, and ready to provide my brand of hard working, pro-active and positive leadership to everything I do.”
-Clint Moore

Simply stated, but robustly delivered throughout every facet of his life, Clint Moore steadily built a legacy as a geologist, a Republican Party leader, a conservationist, a genealogical expert. Clint celebrated his friends and genuinely exhibited his faith and deep love for his family and his cherished wife, Diana, on a daily basis.

The heartbeat of Clint’s life was indeed his family. Clint was the President of the Rodeham Moore Descendants Association, an organization of the descendants of Rodeham Moore and Elizabeth Gallahue who were married in the 18th Century and celebrate more than 12,000 family members today. Clint was spearheading the Association’s 2019 Reunion in North Carolina on October 26th.

Clint’s work as a geologist is well-documented through articles and presentations delivered over the years he spent working in offshore drilling projects in the Gulf of Mexico. While at Anadarko Petroleum, Clint pioneered the “Sub salt” trend in the Gulf of Mexico which led to a worldwide exploration effort. His perseverance lead to the discovery of several fields in the shallow water of the Gulf, amounting to several hundred million barrels of oil. Clint co-founded GulfSlope Energy, Inc. and, in June 2006, Texas Governor Rick Perry appointed Clint as a Committee member from Texas of the Interstate Oil & Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC), where he served the State of Texas on the IOGCC's Energy Resources, Research, and Technology Committee. Clint was very involved in the Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies, the Houston Geological Society and in the leadership of American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG). Clint was a decorated award recipient in all three organizations for his work within the groups. Through AAPG, Clint established a scholarship for military veterans who wanted to study to become geologists.

While studying and working in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Clint discovered great delight in the world of scuba diving and had completed over 450 dives – 100 of which were in the Gulf itself. He and Diana found a beautiful escape from their busy lives around, on and under the sea. So much so that in 2018, Clint was a Lifetime Achievement Awardee from the Texas Gulf Coast Council of Diving Clubs. Clint and Diana became dedicated to maintaining the beauty of the reefs they enjoyed over the years together, most particularly in Flower Gardens Bank National Marine Sanctuary in the Gulf. Clint was originally appointed to the FGBNMS Advisory Council in October 2005, as one of the founding Council members. He served for two terms, three years each, in the Oil & Gas Production seat until April 2012. Clint was re-appointed in March 2014. In May 2015, Clint was elected as Chair by his peers on the Council. Two years later in May 2017, Clint was elected again as Chair. In May 2019, Clint passed the Chair's gavel to his friend and colleague, Captain Scott Hickman, who serves in the Recreational Fishing seat.

For as involved as Clint was in his profession, a great passion of his was fighting for his principles and convictions in the Republican Party on the local, state and national levels. Clint's work on campaigns at all levels is incalculable and he himself ran for Congress in 2004. Clint was very involved in the local Harris County Republican Party as a Senate District Caucus Chairman, Advisory Board Member, longtime volunteer and Election Judge and precinct chair since 1989. Clint was a Member of the Board of Directors with the Conservative Coalition of Harris County.

Clint had just been appointed Assistant Parliamentarian to the State Party this past September. Clint was Senate District 7’s representative to the State Convention for the RPT’s Rules Committee every two years from 1994-2012. In 1995, Clint was honored as Volunteer of the Year. He served as Delegate to six Republican National Conventions and was elected as Republican Party of Texas (RPT) State Senate District 7’s State Republican Executive Committeeman for eight years from 2004-2012. Clint attended nearly 100 State Republican Party Executive Committee meetings - more than anyone in RPT history. Clint instigated and authored the rule that makes the RPT State Convention the largest state grassroots convention in the country due to the way delegates are elected from local conventions and caucuses and his rule also assures that delegates to National Convention are elected from their local jurisdictions as opposed to being appointed by elected officials.

Clint is preceded in death by his Mother, Clara Nicol Moore; his Father, Alfred C. Moore and his brother Alfred Moore.

All are invited to join in Clint's Celebration of Life will be held in Houston on Saturday, October 26 at 10:00am at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to The Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, http://bit.ly/inmemoryofclint or to the AAPG Foundation’s Military Veterans Scholarship Program to support the geology scholarship for military veterans which Clint established, https://donate.aapg.org/Core/eDonation.aspx/ (In ‘Designate Fund’, select ‘Military Veterans Scholarship Program’ and dedicate your contribution in memory of Clint Moore.)
