Dorothy Mae Stick (Estling)
Dorothy Mae Stick (Estling) was born in Dundee, Iowa on September 9, 1925 at home. She passed on September 17, 2019 at the grand age of 94. Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gene Stick; her parents Victor and Linnea Estling; and her 7 brothers and sisters.
She was the youngest of 8 children and adored by them all. She is survived by her son Larry and his wife Connie Stick and her daughter Vicki and her husband, Dennis Gay.
“Dotes” adored her 8 grandchildren: Tracie, Tony, Ryan, Jason, Alissa, Heidi, Kristin and Trenton. She was blessed with 19 Great- Grand children and one Great-Great Grandchild.
Dorothy grew up on a farm in Iowa with her horses, and was a graduate of Alburnett High school. She was very athletic and played Basketball, rode horses and enjoyed being the best roller skater at the local skating rink. “Dot” was a beautiful young lady and won many local beauty contests. She was always dressed in the latest fashion.
Dotes and her husband were entrepreneurs and ran their own business called “Marion TV and Records” in Marion, Iowa for many years. She ran local sock hops and was called “Dot, Queen of the Teens”. She also made sure she met people in the music industry like Fabian, Bobby Rydell and Conway Twitty to name a few. With Gene, she loved to travel to places like Hawaii, Spain, England and Paris.
She was an independent, strong and fearless lady who always excelled at everything she attempted. She also worked as a Realtor and was their top performer. She was one great sales lady! In the 70’s she and Gene moved to Houston to be close to family. They managed one of the stores of the Billiard Factory, owned by Larry, their son. She loved meeting local sports celebrities from the Oilers (Rob Carpenter) and the Rockets (Calvin Murphy) and professional pool players like Willie Mosconi and Minnesota Fats, or movie stars like Spanky McFarland to name a few. Photos with celebrities were hung all around the store.
Dotes was a beautiful person, Business woman, wonderful Grandma, “Gigi” and Great-Great Grandma, adored by all her family. She was always stylish, impeccably dressed from her jewelry to her false eye lashes and finger nails. She set the bar high for all of us.
Dotes, Mom, Grandma, Gigi had a wonderful life loved by everyone and we are so grateful to have had her in our own lives for so many years. In lieu of flowers, please make any contribution to “Mother’s Against Cancer”, her favorite charity, in memory of Dorothy Stick.
