Obituary for
Thomas Alan Siller
Thomas Alan Siller was born August 24, 1947 in Hammond, IN son of Robert Siller and Nedra Queen. He was raised outside Chicago in northwest Indiana by his grandparents, Ted and Evelyn Queen. After high school, he served 3 years (1966-1969) as a company clerk in the US Army, also serving a tour of duty in Vietnam (1967-68) as a part of the First Logistical Command.
After his service in the Army, Tom studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art. Upon graduation he worked as a designer for the American Hospital Association. He went on to work in television as a graphic artist at WLS-TV News Chicago, Channel 15 News in Greenville, MS and The Weather Channel in Atlanta. Tom was an artist and had a passion for design and typography. He spent his time drawing, painting, practicing layout design and was an early adopter of computer graphics.
Tom was married to Barbara Lyn Dietrich on May 12, 1971. They raised two children, Aaron Thomas and Sara Elizabeth. Tom was an amazing father and loved his children with all his heart. He enjoyed hundreds of hunting and fishing trips with his son Aaron and they attended National Wild Turkey Federation conventions together. Tom loved his daughter Sara so much that he gave her many nicknames such as Sadie, Sara Beth and “My Girler”. He loved making Christmas special for his sweet Sadie taking her to the Nutcracker Ballet and always hanging Christmas lights every year. Tom was so proud of his kids and their beautiful families!
In retirement Tom lived in Porter, TX and was remarried on February 26, 2000 to Rhoda Ann Singleton. Tom had a great sense of humor and loved to talk. He had the gift of the gab! He was active in his local AA chapter where he was known by his friends as “Turkey Tom”. He loved food and grilling for friends. As he aged, Tom spent more time online. There he shared his ideas and beliefs and invested countless hours creating graphics of encouragement and prayer for his friends and family.
He passed away on September 5, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. Tom loved Jesus Christ and he is in eternity with the Lord and completely healed!
Tom is survived by his wife Rhoda Siller, his son Aaron Siller spouse Emily Siller, his daughter Sara King spouse Graeme King, his brother Teddy Osborn, his sister Debbie Mills, and cousins Vicky Norman and Greg West. Tom has nine grandchildren Lily King, Lucy King, Owen Thomas Siller, Eliana Siller, Simon Siller, Noelle Siller, Paisley King, Islay King and Levi King.
