Dorothy Rae Hickman, 91, passed away in Willis, Texas on August 11, 2019. Dorothy was born in Houston, Texas to Barton and Addie Jaynes on February 19, 2019.

Dorothy, also lovingly known as “Dot”, graduated from Jeff Davis High School in Houston, Texas in 1946. Shortly after, she married her soul mate and love of her life, Oscar Leon Hickman, and for the next 72 years they had a storybook journey that will be always be remembered. All those years, and they would still hold hands when they walked together.

Dot had numerous hobbies. She loved sewing and crochet and was a perfectionist when it came down to her needlepoint. She can address any topic due to her avid reading; from books and magazines to newspapers and even tabloids. Dot had a gift with her hands. She played the piano and organ with precision and also had the talent to play the accordion. The sounds of her talent would keep a room silent in awe listening to the melodies created. As serene as Dot may seem, it is astonishing that one of her hobbies would happen to be alligator wrestling. It’s almost as if she knew that a bit of excitement was the secret to a long and happy life.
Dot worked as a bank teller in the National Bank and Commerce, Lockwood National Bank and Northeast National Bank. After thirty years of employment, Dot graciously retired. But sitting still was not in the plans for Dot. As a member of the Texas Baptist Men Builders, she assisted several construction projects for the churches, camps and other Christian mission organizations. Although her life was full of activity, Dot always found time to spend with her family.

Survived by husband, Oscar Leon Hickman; sons, Melvin Ray Hickman and wife Sharon, Donald Lee Hickman and wife Tracy Ann, Ronald Dee Hickman and wife Jackie; grandchildren, Cyndye Kay Stewart, Dona Renee Schlegel, Salena Denise Sustaita, John Barton Hickman, Ronald Dee Hickman Jr., Susan Lynnette Hickman, Lydia Ashley Mooney, Sade Pearle Hickman, Brandon Leon Hickman and Lucas Tyler Hickman; great grandchildren, Conner, Addison, Joseph, Emma, Augustus, Ethan, Carolyn and Noah Jobe.
